A semi-trailer loaded with 42,000 pounds of apples destined for the east coast was heavily damaged Sept. 27 after it caught fire along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 about three miles east of The Dalles.

Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue closed down the eastbound lanes of the freeway for about one-hour to battle the blaze.
