THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks (2-6) baseball team is in the midst of an early season slump, which they were hoping to end when they faced the Pendleton High Buckaroos (3-6) in a nonleague contest April 8 at Quinton Street Ballpark in The Dalles.
The Riverhawks lost three nonleague games last week, extending their losing streak to six.
In an April 1 Gorge rivalry matchup against the Class 5A Hood River Valley Eagles (4-4), the Riverhawks lost 11-5 in Hood River. Senior Finley Corbin went 2-for-3 and scored twice from his leadoff spot. Senior teammate Will Booth was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Riverhawks then played in an April 4 doubleheader at North Marion High School in Aurora. The Riverhawks had a tough time, as they faced two pretty solid teams in the No. 11-ranked Henley High Hornets (5-2-1) and the North Marion High Huskies (2-5). The Riverhawks lost 8-0 to the Hornets in their first game.
The game versus the Huskies was a rematch of a 2024 state quarterfinal playoff game (a 4-0 loss May 24, 2024) and the Riverhawks continued to struggle offensively in a 6-2 loss last Friday.
The Riverhawks play their next nonleague contest April 10 on the road versus the No. 4-ranked Philomath High Warriors (5-1-1). They’ll follow with a nonleague road game April 11 versus the No. 6-ranked Newport High Cubs (5-2).
