THE GORGE — The Dalles High, the top-ranked Class 4A girls soccer team, completed the first half of Tri-Valley Conference games this past week with two more wins.
The Riverhawks (8-0-1 overall, 5-0 TVC) won at home against visiting Estacada on Oct. 5, 7-0, and at North Marion, 8-0, Oct. 7.
The Dalles has outscored its opponents 49-1 heading into its five-match schedule in the second half of league play — beginning Oct. 13 with a 4:30 p.m. home test against Gladstone.
Against Estacada, Coach Colby Tonn’s squad turned what — on paper, at least — appeared to be a good test into a mismatch. The Rangers had allowed 10 goals all season — eight against Class 5A and top-ranked Sandy — and had five shutouts.
Columbia tops Fort
Columbia High beat Fort Vancouver, 5-0, in WIAA Class 1A girls soccer Oct. 8, showing marked improvement over when the two teams played earlier this season in a match that ended 2-2. The Bruins (5-4-1 overall, 4-4-1 Trico League), were coming off a 3-2 home loss on Oct. 6 to La Center, a team they had tied earlier this season.
Against Fort, Sofia Vicente and Willow Cohen each scored two goals; Yazmin Rico Huerta scored the final tally in the closing minutes.
La Center took a 3-0 lead on Columbia before Cohen’s two goals pulled the home team closer. Cohen drew double- and triple-teams from then on out, but she did have one chance on a solo run in the closing seconds. Her contested shot sailed high and La Center held on for the win.
Trout Lake splits pair
The Trout Lake Mustangs opened 3A/2A/1A Special District 1 play last week with a split of two matches. Trout Lake lost 5-0 at Westside Christian and won, 7-1, at home against Corbett. The Mustangs are 7-4 overall.
