THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks continued their impressive season by winning two Tri-Valley Conference home games last week and clinching its first boys soccer title in school history.
The No. 2-ranked Riverhawks (7-0 TVC, 13-0-1 overall) won 1-0 over Gladstone (5-2-1 TVC, 8-3-2 overall) behind junior forward Ivan Santana’s second-half goal — his 14th this season. The Riverhawks, guided by fifth-year Coach Jesus Granados and assistant Matt Dallman, followed with a 6-0 win over Estacada (1-5-1 TVC, 2-10-1 overall) on senior night Oct. 23. Goalkeeper Marcos Meza recorded his eighth shutout this season. Senior Patrick Rankin scored two goals.
Granados, who is experiencing his first unbeaten season as a coach, said: “Everybody got playing time versus Estacada and our subs scored a couple of goals. All of our seniors played most of the game. It was awesome for them to have a chance to enjoy their last home game under the lights [on Sid White Field].”
Those seniors included: Aaron Malpica Garcia, Oswaldo Torres, Meza, David Chavez, Juan Camarillo, Rankin, Santiago Rodriguez, Daniel Cervantes and Angel Morales. Camarillo is the Riverhawks’ leading scorer with 15 goals.
The Riverhawks were scheduled to play Oct. 28 in their final regular season match at Molalla (1-5-1 TVC, 4-9-1 overall). The Dalles is one of two undefeated squads in the 31-team Class 4A, along with No. 1-ranked Stayton (12-0-1).
The Riverhawks have clinched a spot in the state playoffs for a fourth consecutive year. The 16-team playoffs begin with first-round games Nov. 5; The Dalles will host a first-round game.
