Muir Emmons wins Hershey’s state meet
The Hershey’s State Track Meet took place June 28 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. The meet brought together 390 of the top qualifiers out of the several thousand who competed across the state in regional qualifiers earlier this year. From the state meet, the winners of each event in each division have their times or distances compared to winners from the other states in the Northwest Region (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia), and from that, the top athlete in each will be announced this week as the qualifier for the North American Track Meet in Hershey, Penn. Of the 12 athletes representing Hood River, Muir Emmons was the only one to win an event; he finished first in the age 13-14 800-meter run.
