Spring fling SUP weekend March 12-13
Big Winds will be hosting a Spring Fling Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) event this weekend, March 12-13. Events will be going on at both Big Winds and the Event Site this weekend including savings on SUP gear, demos, races, bonfires, hot cocoa, free lessons, and more. Ryan Ward shines in home debut for WSU Cougars baseball team
Former Hood River Valley High School pitcher Ryan Ward had a great start in his home debut for the Washington State Cougars baseball team, helping the Cougars to a 10-1 victory over Utah Valley Friday. Ward pitched five innings in the first win of his college career, striking out eight batters and giving up just one run and four hits. This followed up Ward’s first game of the season, a 9-8 road win achieved in 10 innings against Texas State, which saw Ward strike out six batters and give up four hits and four runs in 3.1 innings. Ward is a 2015 graduate of HRVHS and was a huge part of the school’s 5A baseball state tournament victory in Ward’s senior year.
HRV baseball players sign letters of intent at NW colleges
Last month, seniors on the HRV varsity baseball team signed letters to play at Pacific Northwest colleges following graduation from HRVHS. Chase Lariza signed with Pacific Lutheran University, located in Tacoma, Wash., while Kellan Duffy and Patrick Harvey both signed with Linn-Benton Community College, located in Albany.
Snowboard state championships this week at Meadows
The HRV snowboard team is heading to the Oregon Interscholastic Snowboard Association state championships this week at Mt. Hood Meadows. Things kick off with a practice day Wednesday and then get started in earnest with a banked slalom and boardercross competition Thursday. That’s followed up by the rail jam and slopestyle competitions Friday, and concludes with the halfpipe event Saturday. For more information, go to www.OISA.org.
