The defending OSAA Class 4A softball state champion and No. 2-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks captured their sixth straight victory with a 3-2 win at No. 3-ranked Astoria on April 13.
Trailing 1-0 after four innings, the Riverhawks scored two runs in the fifth to take a 2-1 advantage. Astoria (3-0 Cowapa League, 11-3 overall) knotted it 2-2 in the sixth. Following a scoreless seventh, the Riverhawks scored a run in the eighth inning for the victory.
Astoria outhit The Dalles, 9-6. The Riverhawks were led offensively by Kaleyah Crichton-Tunai (1-for-4, two RBI), Zoe LeBreton (1-for-4) and Maddie Brock (2-for-4, RBI). Junior pitcher Despina Seufalemua led the Riverhawk defense with five strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs allowed.
Earlier last week, the defending Tri-Valley Conference champion Riverhawks won 11-0 on April 8 over visiting Madras. The Riverhawks followed with an 18-2 win over the White Buffaloes on April 10 at Madras. The Riverhawks then maintained their undefeated league record with a 13-2 road win, April 11 at Gladstone.
