The Columbia Gorge Windsurfing Association’s Gorge Cup race series will have its second-to-last race of the season this weekend in Hood River and will wrap up in less than three weeks.

The summer-long windsurfing race series, which kicked off May 16, has been the benefit of consistent, with only one of the five races scheduled so far this season having been canceled.
The most recent event in the series was held the weekend of July 18-19 and part of the U.S. Windsurfing Slalom National Race Tour. Twenty-five racers competed in the event with first place going to Tyson Poor, second to Hood River’s MacRae Wylde, and third to Tavis Perez. Hood River’s Fiona Wylde wasn’t far behind in fourth place.
The next race is scheduled to be held Saturday, Aug. 1, with registration and check-in at 8:30 a.m. at the Hood River Event Site. Skipper’s meeting had not been announced as of press time. The series will wrap up two weeks later with a race on Saturday. Aug. 15.
As of now, the Wyldes are dominating the series standings, with MacRae in first place with 4.7 points and Fiona in third place with 11 points (in the Gorge Cup, lowest point total wins) out of a total field of 41 competitors. Perez, currently in second, rounds out the top three.
