TROUT LAKE — Trout Lake hosted eight other small schools at its annual Jeff Agar Memorial track and field meet April 18 under sunny, but windy conditions — with spectacular Mount Adams looming as a backdrop.
The Mustang girls had three double winners and won seven individual events overall — and both relays. Trout Lake’s individual titles came from Melody Stock, Cora Sharp, and Aurora Zoller. Stock won the 1500 meters in a season best 4 minutes, 53.07 seconds, and the 800 in a season best 2:28.65. Sharp won the 100 meters and the long jump, and Zoller won the shot put (personal best 29-10.5) and discus.
The Mustangs’ other win came from Jade Mclean in the pole vault in a season best 9-6. Trout Lake won the 4x100 relay (Lisa Medina, Lupe Medina, Mclean, Sharp) in 52.88, and the 4x400 relay (Riley Rickman, Stock, Mclean, Sharp) in 4:21.25. Ellie Rubesh added two runner-up finishes for the Mustangs in the 100 hurdles and triple jump (PR 31-4).
The Mustang boys were led by Jayden Kusky, who won the shot put in a personal best 50-8 (OSAA state leading Class 1A mark), and the discus at 129-4. Fellow senior Nehemiah Davis also won the 3,000 for the host team.
Glenwood was led by junior Anthony Avila, who won the 1,500 in 4:44.08, edging South Wasco sophomore Makoto Stratton (PR 4:44.51). Seniors Jason Hull of South Wasco and Shane Spino of Glenwood battled to a photo finish in the 400, with Hull winning 54.02 to 54.06. Glenwood junior Talon Cabral won the high jump at 5-6.
Glenwood’s Kerryna Thompson won the girls javelin and teammate Giana Jackson was third in the long jump and 200.
South Wasco also had a winning — and PR — effort from Sawyer Brown, who won the javelin at 143-6. Stratton came back later in the meet to finish second in the triple jump at 36-8.5 (PR) and ran a leg on the Redsides’ winning 4x400 team (3:47.42) – along with Ryker Thompson, George Barnett, and Hull.
Senior Bailey Udey had a good day in the horizontal jumps, winning the girls triple jump at a season best 33-5 and placing second in the long jump. She also was second in the 200.
Horizon Christian was led by junior Karis Caldwell, who won the girls 200 and was second in the 100. Junior Milo Bielen was second in both the boys shot and boys discus for the Hawks, and sophomore Josh Carley was second in the 800. Horizon’s boys 4x100 relay of John Tu, Charlie Haynie, Landon Whitaker, and Judah Garrett was second behind Stevenson; the Hawks’ time of 45.82 is No. 4 in OSAA Class 1A thus far.
