Last week’s bowling league action at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes produced a bunch of excellent scores. The cream of the crop rose to the top and fresh faces flourished. The Team of the Week reflects that mix. Leading the parade of tall totalers was Lynn Spellman, who blasted a huge scratch 750 series in the Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league. Lynn is once again becoming a familiar name in the limelight around here, as he is a multiple member of the Team of the Week in this young bowling season.
Lynn notched solid scratch 268 and 253 games in his big series, which ended up 171 pins over his average to make him the No. 1 bowler in town last week. Any time you shoot 750 or better, you can be justly proud and very satisfied, as it’s a heck of a series in anybody’s book.
An advertising campaign for a famous No. 2 company says it tries harder. This is a perfect description for Jesse Flores, who garnered the second spot on the Team of the Week. Jesse is a bowling nut who always gives it everything he has. Last week in the Monday night Industrial league, his down-and-in slants found pay dirt. Jesse fired a super scratch 264 game and 622 series that was 133 pins over his average. Nice bowling grandpa!
The Industrial league sure seemed like the place to be last week as our next two stars shined in that session. Jaymes Youtsey, of Sawtooth Restaurant, had his bowling game in overdrive as he racked up two scratch 223 games that pushed him to a mighty fine scratch 639 series. Jaymes ended up 132 pins over his average.
Bob Reid was also right in the mix. His patent smooth and easy, down and in style was right on the money all night long. Bob tossed a nice scratch 659 series that was 128 pins over his average.
Our anchor spot goes to iron pumping power ball specialist and Orchard Lanes staffer Josh Worth, who broke a bunch more of those helpless 3 lb. 6 oz. pins in the high powered Wednesday night Fraternal league with that heavy speedy sphere of his that he handles like a Kelvin Herrera fastball. Josh ended up 119 pins over his average in the session after crushing a big scratch 731 series that was capped by a nifty scratch 268 game.
There were four scratch 700s logged in league play last week, the aforementioned big-time sets notched by Lynn Spellman and Josh Worth, two of our cream of the crop keglers. Another cream of the crop star, Mark Chabotte, also rolled a scratch 709 in the Industrial. Mark is off to a great start this season and is currently the highest-average bowler in town, carrying a scintillating 223 average. Finally, up and coming star, Dan Wahl, also racked up a scratch 709 series in the Fraternal.
Great bowling everybody!
