HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley High School (HRV) baseball team won its final three games of the regular season this past week and qualified for the 2026 OSAA Class 5A state playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
This week, the Eagles start play in the state playoffs against the 15th seed, Crescent Valley/Kings Valley Charter, on May 26 at HRVHS.
HRV won Northwest Oregon Conference games over Hillsboro High School, 7-1, on the road May 19; Centennial High School, 5-0, on the road May 20; and Centennial, 13-0, at home for senior night May 22.
The second-ranked Eagles (20-6, 13-3 NWOC), led by head coach Max Reitz, closed out the two-game series against Hillsboro (11-11, 9-7 NWOC), by outhitting the Spartans, 8-5.
“This was a solid win on the road,” said Reitz. “[Landen] Pratt and [Bodie] Stuben combined to control the game from the mound, and our offense found a little more success and kept adding runs as you like to see. Nick Tuttle did a good job of setting the table offensively and had a great throw from right field to nab a runner going to third base for a big out.”
In game one against the Eagles (8-19, 3-13 NWOC) of Centennial, HRV was led by sophomore Tyson Harjo on the mound. Harjo pitched a complete game, finishing with 10 strikeouts and giving up three hits on the day.
Game two against Centennial at home (May 22) was senior night for HRV, during which the program recognized six seniors in the class of 2026: Maverick Hockett, Stuben, Trevor Jacobs, Chaz Valentine, Kingston McAdam and Tuttle. HRV also recognized former Eagle Tristin Baker, who would have been a senior in the program this year, but died during his sophomore year.
Stuben and Jacobs combined for a no-hitter on the mound for the Eagles. Stuben got the start and pitched four innings with eight strikeouts, with Jacobs sealing the deal in the fifth inning.
HRV’s first round state playoff opponent, Crescent Valley of Corvallis, finished with a 16-11 regular season record and in fourth place in the 5A Mid-Willamette Conference. The Raiders are led by senior pitchers Quinn Sissel, a 6-foot-3, hard-throwing right-hander, and San Diego Mesa College signee Jacob Fritz.
