Local gymnast Jacy Johnston had a good showing last weekend at the Oregon State Optional Gymnastics Championship in Salem, where she battled through a stomach bug to place fourth all-around in Level 6 competition — a personal best for Johnston. In individual events, Johnston placed fourth in beam (9.475, PB) and sixth on floor (9.375, PB), vault (9.225), and bars (9.0, PB). Johnston won’t have a competition until 2017 and in the interim, will hone her skills to compete at the Level 7 and Level 8 competitions next year. The 11-year-old’s goal is to be a Level 10 gymnast within three years, after which comes the Elite (Olympic) level.
