Horizon Christian School’s top-ranked boys basketball team earned two wins this past weekend, defeating Condon-Wheeler 66-31 in Fossil on Friday and besting Nixyaawii at home Saturday, 70-42.
Fast starts were key to both wins. Horizon seized control of the Condon game with a 20-0 run over the second half of the opening period. Condon had led 5-4, but the Knights went 0-for-7 from the field and committed five turnovers the rest of the quarter.
Mason Bloomster and Jake Wells combined to score 18 of Horizon’s next 20 points for a 24-5 lead. Condon twice cut the margin to 18 points in the third quarter, but could get no closer.
Bloomster and Wells each scored 19 points, and Jared Davis added 14. Matt Totaro led Horizon in rebounds with 10.
The next day against Nixyaawii, Horizon raced to a 31-5 first-quarter lead. The gritty Eagles hung around the rest of the game, pulling within 18 points early in the fourth quarter, as both coaches liberally shuffled their lineups.
Wells scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 17 minutes of play. Totaro added 15 points in as many minutes.
Horizon (19-0 overall, 8-0 Big Sky Conference) plays at Ione on Friday.
