Eagles split two softball games

HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley High Eagles split two games in OSAA Class 5A Northwest Oregon Conference softball last week.

The No. 22-ranked Eagles (2-2 NWOC, 5-10 overall) lost at home 9-6 to the No. 6-ranked Putnam High Kingsmen (3-1 NWOC, 9-4 overall) on April 21. The Eagles bounced back and won, 15-0, over the winless Parkrose High Broncos (0-5 NWOC, 0-13 overall) on April 23 in Portland, snapping a two-game losing streak.

The Eagles, who have won three of their past six games, were seeking to get a second straight victory April 28 at Milwaukie (0-4 NWOC, 3-12 overall). Playing on back-to-back days, the Eagles will face the Mustangs again April 29 at home in a 5 p.m. contest at Westside Elementary School in Hood River. The Eagles will then play their third game in four days in a 5 p.m. road game May 1 versus the No. 4-ranked La Salle Prep High Falcons (4-1 NWOC, 11-4 overall) in Milwaukie.

Hood River entered the week in fifth place in the nine-team NWOC standings. The top four teams qualify for the state playoffs that begin May 26.
