Eagle girls continue to pace NWOC in tennis

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s girls tennis team last week beat Wilsonville, 6-2, on May 1, and blanked Canby, 8-0, on April 28 to continue its non-loss streak this season.
Hood River is 11-0-1 this season with its lone non-win a 4-4 tie against La Salle Prep on April 9 in an Northwest Oregon Conference dual.
The Eagles will be busy this week with their final three NWOC matches on tap. HRV was scheduled to play at Hillsboro on May 4, at Milwaukie on May 5, and then host Centennial on May 7.
The NWOC district tournament is Monday through Wednesday, May 11-13, at Parkrose High School in east Portland.
Against Wilsonville, HRV received singles wins at the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lineup spots — including those from seniors Emily Doss (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2 and Sofia Rodriguez (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) at No. 3. The Eagles’ No. 2 team of Anna Dalbey and Ellie Giordano led a 3-1 HRV advantage in doubles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
HRV junior Zoe Aiken went stroke for stroke against Teagan Hamilton of Wilsonville in singles play, before losing, 6-4, 7-5. Hamilton qualified for state in doubles in 2025.
The Hood River Valley boys played Canby to a 4-4 tie on April 28 and then beat Southridge, 6-1, in a non-league match on April 30.
