The Columbia High Bruins (2-10 league, 5-14 overall) concluded their 2024 season May 3, falling one game short of their goal of reaching the postseason after a 14-4 loss to the King’s Way Christian High Knights (5-7 league, 8-12 overall) in Vancouver.
Earlier last week, Coach William Gross’ team split a May 1 Trico League doubleheader at home versus the Knights, keeping their hopes alive for a possible district playoff spot. The win snapped a four-game Bruin losing streak. The Bruins won Game 1, 10-9, but lost the second game, 13-7.
“We played a pretty good King’s Way team that took third place in the league, and it was a really good win for us last Wednesday,” Gross said.
Bruin seniors Christian Guinn, Yadier Ruiz, Wesley White, and Luke LaBryer concluded their Columbia High baseball career in last Friday’s, road game in Vancouver.
“This was a special season for me, because coming back to White Salmon and coaching this team will forever be represented as my first varsity team and our four seniors will always be very special for me. The biggest thing that I can say about them is that they trusted me right off the bat. They had never even met me before and seeing how they put a high level of trust in me every step along the way, it was just great to see that from this group of seniors,” Gross said.
