WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High Bruins softball team won its last two Trico League games last week to give them momentum for the District 4 playoffs May 14-17 in Centralia, Washington.
The Bruins (10-4 Trico League, 10-6 overall) capped the regular season by winning four straight games and five of their past six to take second place in the eight-team league standings behind the Trico champion Seton Catholic High Cougars (14-0 Trico, 16-3 overall).

Trailing 5-3 after four innings, the Bruins scored three runs in the fifth to go ahead 6-5. The Bulldogs responded by scoring two in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-6 advantage. The Bruins then took control of the seesaw contest with a four-run sixth inning rally to go ahead for good.
The Bruins outhit the Bulldogs, 18-8, and they had one error. Bruin starting pitcher, Josie Dickey, and reliever, Danica Herman, combined on six strikeouts and five walks.
The Bruins were led offensively by Herman (2-for-4, three RBIs, home run), Halle Kock (3-for-5, five RBIs, two doubles), McKena Carlock (1-for-4, two RBIs), Madison Russum (2-for-4), Fiona Grabb (2-for-5) and Julia Mullinix (3-for-4).
On May 8, the Bruins played their final home game of the season, and they won 12-5 over the Bulldogs in White Salmon. The Bruins had a more dominating performance versus the Bulldogs, as they took control at the outset of the contest and built a 9-1 advantage after three innings.
