WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High School (CHS)soccer team picked up an important Trico League win, 1-0, against La Center High School on April 29, avenging a March 23 loss to the Wildcats.
The Bruins (12-2-1, 12-2 Trico), led by Coach Gio Magana, were solid on both ends in the win against the Wildcats (10-5-2, 10-4-2 Trico), which put CHS firmly in second place in the Trico behind Fort Vancouver High School (13-2, 13-2 Trico) in the home stretch of the regular season.
“I’m extremely proud of our players — not only for the result, but for the performance, composure, and determination they displayed in a challenging environment against a strong opponent,” said Magana. “We controlled the match from start to finish, staying true to our style of play and working collectively as a team. Securing another clean sheet is especially important to us, as it’s a standard we emphasize after every game. This marks 11 clean sheets in 15 matches this season. The players continue to leave everything every time they step on the field, and that commitment is all we can ask for as a coaching staff.”
Quinn Harty was unassisted on the Bruins’ lone goal of the night, while goalkeeper Ricardo Cortez led the way on defense with three saves.
CHS has remaining matches against King’s Way on the road on May 5 and then senior night at home against Winlock on May 6.
