The Sherman/Condon/Wheeler High Huskies snapped a two-game losing streak with a 14-0 win over host Irrigon in a Special District 7 Class 2A/1A baseball game April 12.
After dropping the first game of the doubleheader, 5-4, the Huskies responded with their first shutout of the season. Junior Leven Whitbeck of Wheeler tossed a one-hitter and struck out six to lead the Huskies.
The Huskies took control of the contest with a seven-run fourth inning. The Huskies sent 11 batters to the plate and pounded five hits in the rally, including RBI singles by junior Gabe Fritts (1-for-3, two RBI) and senior Zander Berglund (2-for-4, four RBI), and an RBI double by junior Blake Carnine (2-for-4, two RBI).
The Huskies (4-2 SD7, 7-4 overall) had a rough start in the three-game series versus the Knights (2-4 SD7, 5-5 overall) as they lost 13-3 April 9 at Sherman.
Dufur losing streak reaches seven
The Dufur High Rangers’ losing streak reached seven after they were swept in a three-game series versus visiting Stanfield/Echo. The Rangers (0-6 SD7, 1-9 overall) lost 14-4 in a five-inning contest April 9 at Dufur High School. The Cougars then swept an April 13 home doubleheader with an 18-8 Game 1 win in five innings, followed by a 2-1 victory in the second game.
