HRV Softball headed into its play-in game matchup with the 11-16 Wilsonville Wildcats on a four-game losing streak, but the Eagles looked nothing like its 7-8 record to end the regular season, and instead more like the team that won 13-straight games to open the season.

Before the HRV softball team hosted a double header against Pendleton this past weekend, the Eagles were at home against Hermiston for the third of four meetings between the two schools this season.

Last year’s HRV softball team had an incredibly young roster, boasting just one senior and two juniors, and while this year’s squad only has four players from the class of 2017, the juniors and sophomores on the team are older, wiser, and ready to build on last year’s efforts.

The Dalles seniors Grace Helyer and Ruthie Ford combined for five hits and two RBIs, as No. 9 The Dalles broke open a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning enroute to a 6-3 win Friday over Hood River Valley on senior night in The Dalles. TD’s win, coupled by Hermiston’s 12-2 loss Friday to Pendleton, gave the Riverhawks second place in league and a home state play-in matchup at home next Friday against St. Helens.
