With all the Medicare television ads and mailbox stuffers, you probably know that Medicare Open Enrollment begins Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7. But where can you get unbiased information to help you navigate through the complicated and often frustrating Medicare system?
You can find that information by making an appointment with a SHIBA counselor. To do so, contact the Mid-Columbia Senior Center at 541-296-4788 or SHIBA at 541-288-8341. SHIBA is a federally-funded, nationwide program that trains volunteers to provide free one-on-one Medicare counseling.
To the editor: Dan Crofoot wrote in a letter to the editor last Sunday that he is disappointed that his wife had to drop her Walgreens drug program when she turned 65. His letter is a reminder that the Medicare open enrollment begins Oct. 15 and is an opportunity for Medicare beneficiaries to evaluate and change their prescription drug coverage. Donna Delikat, advocate for SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance), will be in The Dalles Tuesday, March 19, presenting a free class, Medicare 101. The program will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Columbia Gorge Community College, The Dalles Campus, 400 E. Scenic Drive.
