Cascade Farm and Outdoor — Bi-Mart’s employee-owned farm and outdoor division — opens its newest store in Hood River June 15. It is their third store in Oregon, and fourth store in the northwest.
Shoppers will see major changes at The Dalles Fred Meyer in the next six months as the company reconfigures the store to maximize grocery space to meet demand. The remodel also creates dozens of new jobs in our area, which is already experiencing a tight labor market, with the unemployment rate for Wasco County hovering around 4 percent according to the state employment department.
In 2004 during our weekly visits to the school library, many of the female students in my third-grade class were inclined to check out books about princesses, fairies and cute puppies. Meanwhile, their classmate Thania Torres searched the shelves for books about anatomy. She shared with me every fascinating fact she discovered about the human body. At the ripe old age of 8, Thania was already certain that one day she wanted to be a doctor.
