To the editor: Patriot’s Day, Sept. 11, is an official day of Remembrance. As such The American Flag is flown at half-staff from dawn until dusk. The Flag Code and protocol provide the specifications for such display. In the case of flags that are mounted in such a manner that they can not be lowered to half-staff, the code and protocol proscribe that they be flown with a black ribbon [a mourning ribbon] that is the length of the flag and the width of a single stripe, hung from the top of the flag.
