The new era of Class 1A six-man football, sanctioned by the OSAA for the first time, plus a new field for South Wasco County, equaled a successful start Sept. 1, when the Redsides won 33-0 over the Harper Charter Hornets in Maupin.
The opening of steelhead fishing on the Deschutes River last week was much anticipated in the city of Maupin. “The whole town of Maupin is excited,” said John Hazel, owner of Deschutes Angler Fly Shop, in anticipation of the opening. “I would expect a good number of fishermen. We are one of the best steelhead rivers in Oregon,” he explained.
The Thunderbolts, a group of six 4H girls attending Maupin Grade School, recently placed first in the Destination Imagination state academic tournament for Oregon and earned the opportunity to participate in global finals in Kansas City, Missouri, May 22 through 25.
