Emily Teets of Hood River Valley posted the two fastest times in the girls giant slalom Mt. Hood League ski race Saturday at Mt. Hood Meadows.
Teets went 51.44 seconds on her first run and 50.21 on her second for a combined time of 1:41.65. That placed her six seconds better than runner-up Aspen Hand of St. Mary’s Academy. Hood River Valley did not have two complete runs from at least three skiers and therefore did not post a team time.
Fifteen skiers make up The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls ski team, which will soon be zooming down the steep, snow-covered slopes of Mount Hood.
George Harrison placed ninth, Lucy Booth tacked on 12th place honors and The Dalles rattled off six top-25 two-run times at their final regular-season race on Feb. 22 atop Mount Hood Meadows on the Middlefork giant slalom course.
Race cancellations have been the theme of the last half of the season for Mount Hood League squads, so there were two giant slalom and one slalom event held last Saturday and Monday to squeeze in the remaining schedules.
A movie about empowering girls is set for a screening Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Academy. There is a $5 suggested donation. The movie, “Girl Rising,” is being screened by a local girls’ club called Girl Up.
