To the Editor: I am writing in support of Brian Stevens for city council at large. I am a junior at the high school and I’ve worked with Brian in basketball for the past years. I can say without a doubt that Brian Stevens would make an excellent city councilman. He exhibits all of the characteristics that will help lead this town in the right direction.

Hood River County Education Foundation (HRCEF) has announced that April 13 is the application deadline for scholarships for Hood River Valley High School graduates who will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in college (or trade school) in the fall of 2018.

Columbia High’s girls basketball team went 3-4 in December games under second-year Bruins Coach Don Struck and began the new year with a 1A Trico League defeat by Castle Rock on Jan. 3 to fall to 3-5 with 11 games remaining on its 2017-18 schedule.

The Dalles High School is looking for mentors willing to help juniors and seniors plan for their next steps after graduation. The ASPIRE program pairs mentors with one or more students to help them line up plans ranging from the military to trade school to college.

Junior Ruby Patterson made it to the final round of Open Prose and won second place in Open Oratory as Hood River Valley High School Speech and Debate team competed in the Robert D. Clark Invitational tournament at the University of Oregon Feb. 18-19.
