The North Wasco County School District 21 (NWCSD 21) school board announced the approval of zero school fees for the 2022-23 school year.
The NWCSD 21 school board was set to review and approve “course fees, student fees, material fees, etc.,” established by each school building, so costs could be published in student handbooks and school calendars before the next school year, as an action item on the June 16 board meeting agenda. The action is an annual process.
Updated masking policies were discussed during the superintendent’s report in the March 17 North Wasco County School District 21 (NWCSD) school board meeting. In it, Superintendent Carolyn Bernal broke down the different policy changes that have taken place since the March 11 lifting of Oregon’s statewide masking mandate. Starting March 14, it is now optional for students and staff to wear masks inside NWCSD buildings.
THE DALLES — Dr. Carolyn Bernal has been selected as the new superintendent of North Wasco County School District 21, pending successful contract negotiations. The school board voted unanimously in support of hiring Dr. Bernal on Monday, Feb. 1.
A dual language immersion program taught in Spanish and English will start at Chenowith Elementary in the fall, in one kindergarten classroom, the D21 school board decided Feb. 27 in a 5-2 vote.
