100 Years Ago-1913 With the Methodist, Christian, United Brethren and Baptist churches as plaintiffs, a suit was filed by Bright, Bryant & Ellis, attorneys, in the circuit court late Saturday afternoon against Mayor Judd S. Fish, Recorder George Ross, Treasurer Edward Kurtz and members of the city council, as defendants, the object of the legal proceedings being to prevent the city from issuing saloon licenses in the future. It is claimed the council has no legal right to grant liquor permits because of a charter omission which was made when the state legislature re-enacted a section of the local charter in 1905.
