Marguerite “Maggie” Hannah Gould of Pine Grove, Oregon, passed away on New Year’s Day 2015 at her home.
Maggie was born in Castro Valley, CA to Patricia and Alexander Gould on October 12, 1957. Growing up in a Navy family, she went to high school in Athens, Greece and Bahrain.
She graduated from Skyline High School in Oakland, CA. Maggie also attended Feather River College in Quincy, CA; Rogue River Community College in Grants Pass, OR; later graduating from Oregon State University, in Corvallis, OR, with a BS in Wildlife Science.
Maggie worked for the U. S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Bureau of Land Management for over 25 years, spending the most time in the Mt. Hood National Forest.
She performed wildlife projects and surveys for all types of birds and wildlife (lynx, bears, elk) and particularly loved monitoring the endangered spotted owl, Sandhill crane and songbirds. She volunteered for Hawkwatch International in Oregon, the Audubon Society of Portland, the Living History Pioneer Camp, Teachers in the Woods and the Maupin Visitors Center.
Maggie enjoyed salmon fishing in Alaska and trout fishing in the Sierra Nevada. She loved her dogs, her family, her friends, bird watching, gardening, sunflowers and living in rural Oregon.
Her father, Alexander; her sister Julie; her beloved dog Jessie; special friends Ernie Brookins; and the Anderson sisters survive her.
A celebration of her life will be held in March 2015 in Pine Grove, OR; a notice with further details will be published then.
