Heart of Hospice extended a heartfelt thank you to all its volunteers “who make a meaningful difference in the hearts and lives of our patients, families and staff,” writes volunteer coordinator Jayne Mederios.
Each year The Dalles and the Hood River Youth of Heart of Hospice (YoHOH) clubs end their year with a Christmas celebration, singing and giving out decorated gifts and cards.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, the Youth of Heart of Hospice YoHOH’s, both Hood River and The Dalles clubs, visited the Oregon Veterans Home/OVH in The Dalles for an early Veterans Day celebration.
The Saturday before Veterans Day the Youth Heart of Hospice YoHoHs from Hood River and The Dalles visited the Oregon Veterans home. Their visit included giving flags to the veteran residents, and every Heart of Hospice patient received a certificate of appreciation with their name and branch of service.
Wearing festive hats and beautiful smiles the Hood River Youth of Heart of Hospice/YoHOH’s began visiting Hospice patients this season, delivering festive little pumpkins, visiting with patients and reading autumn poems by Emily Dickenson and Robert Frost.
Jimmie Doris died before getting to play on new billiards table Jimmie Doris didn’t live long enough to rack the balls for Friday’s ceremonial break on the new pool table at the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles but friends and family felt he was there in spirit.
On Saturday, May 18, over 80 local residents braved the cool, windy, and rainy spring weather at Jackson Park to attend our fifth annual Heart of Hospice Butterfly Release to honor the loss of their loved ones. For many of the participants, this was not their first Butterfly Release. Our Youth Heart of Hospice volunteers (YoHOHs) were on hand to face-paint the children and to pass out the butterflies. The YoHOHs are teen volunteers from Hood River Valley High School.
On a cold Friday, Dec. 21, afternoon when most students at Hood River Valley High School were leaving for winter break, the Youth Heart of Hospice YoHOHs met with Santa out in front of the school.
