Honoring Veterans

On a beautiful Saturday morning, the Youth of Heart of Hospice YoHOH’s, both Hood River and The Dalles clubs, visited the Oregon Veterans Home/OVH in The Dalles for an early Veterans Day celebration. With flags in hand for each of the veterans, the YoHOH’s and volunteers visited each of the buildings’ four wings, shaking hands with veterans and thanking them for their service, as well as singing patriotic songs. “One of the most moving moments was when our group had finished singing ‘America the Beautiful.’ We turned to witness a veteran with tears rolling down his cheek, saluting our group, and thanked the young people for coming to visit him and his fellow veterans,” said Jayne Mederios, volunteer coordinator. Katie Conklin, co-president of The Dalles YoHOHs, said, “Being a part of the YoHOHs and visiting veterans truly causes this individual to feel as though they can positively impact another person’s life.” In back, from left: Heart of Hospice Community Outreach Candace Wilson, veteran Andre Lamoreaux, Heart of Hospice Veteran to Veteran volunteer Bill Probstfield, Martin Carter, TDHS YoHOH co-presidents Maggie Corey and Katie Conklin, Whitney Scott, Blair Holman, Michelle Hobbs.
