The balance of power in high school track and field tends to shift week-to-week during the spring season, as teams juggle training regimens toward season-ending district and state meets. This past week the Intermountain Conference power base tilted toward the Gorge, as Hood River and The Dalles registered some league-leading times and distances.
The Emerald Team Challenge held in Eugene on March 4 proved to be one of the most exciting meets so far this season for Hood River Optional level competitors for Riverside Gymnastics Academy.
Local gymnast Jacy Johnston had a good showing last weekend at the Oregon State Optional Gymnastics Championship in Salem, where she battled through a stomach bug to place fourth all-around in Level 6 competition — a personal best for Johnston.
Hood River gymnast Jacy Johnston, 11, was at the top of her game this past weekend, breaking some personal records, receiving special recognition, and medaling on every event she participated in at the Oregon State University Gymnastics Academy Spring Invitational, which was held at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.

The 2015 Oregon State Gymnastics Spring Championships were held in Salem this past weekend and five Hood River gymnasts, representing Riverside Gymnastics Academy based out of The Dalles, brought home the gold and then some.
The young tumblers at Riverside Gymnastics Academy in The Dalles are in full swing with the fall competitive season, and representing Hood River in the group are athletes Poppy Miller, Jacy Johnston, Regina Sanchez-Macias, Audrey Fuentes, Sophia Riviello and Ava Krentz.
