The Oregon School Activities Association decided not to host state competition — in any sports — this school year, so groups of coaches have organized independent state meets in all five of six enrollment classifications. A 1A state meet is scheduled Saturday at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande and will include Big Sky athletes.

The Athletics East track group broke the seal on the Junior Olympic slate with a solid opening performance at the two-day Portland Track Festival this past weekend at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. While facing male and female runners from 49 other clubs ranging in ages from eight and under through 18, Conor Blair, Emily Johnson, Vivian Harrah and Liz Tapia either matched or surpassed their personal records and combined for a handful of top-5 finishes, as this marked the first year AE athletes participated in field events.
It has been a successful two days for members of The Dalles High School track and field team, which has been participating in the district track meet at Hermiston High School field in Hermiston, Wednesday and Thursday. According to TDHS head coach Garth Miller, during the two days of events numerous students qualified to move on to the Oregon State Athletic Association State Championships, which will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene on May 19-20.
