Coached by Steven Begay, the Columbia Gorge Goats posted a 5-0 record and outscored opponents by a 100-58 margin to run away with first place at this weekend’s Rip City 3-on-3 Tournament in Portland.
The Dalles 12U All-Stars were hoping for a better result over their week of games at the District 5 Tournament, but still salvaged a 3-2 record, with both losses to Bend North, to secure third place in the nine-team field. In those five games, TD had dominating pitching performances, comeback wins, and heroic efforts put forth by several players.
When a team outscores opponents by a 192-43 margin, chances are good that tournament success will follow. That is exactly what the Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy fifth-graders put forth in scoring four consecutive wins and a tournament title at the inaugural Gorge Hoops Invitational ending Sunday at The Dalles Middle School.
