The Salvation Army has struck gold in The Dalles. Two gold coins were dropped in Red Kettles in Wasco County to help the Salvation Army in The Dalles. This is a generous gift, which greatly helps the Salvation Army get closer to reaching their Red Kettle Campaign goal of $60,000 to help fund their year-round programs and services. The Salvation Army bell ringing continued through Christmas Eve day.

For at least the second year in a row, a group of anonymous donors gave a 1-ounce gold coin to the Salvation Army through its bell ringing program. The Canadian maple leaf coin was donated Saturday, Dec. 15 and was sold the following Monday in Portland for $1,216, said Lt. John Cardenas of the Salvation Army.

Gold awards were flying for members of The Dalles Dance Academy this past weekend at the Onstage New York Dance Competition held at the Portland Convention Center. TD received top awards in the Teen, Junior and Mini-Division, in areas such as Jazz, Tap, Musical Theater and Solo, as its competition came from approximately 50 studios around the Pacific Northwest and 861 dancers in this regional event.
