The Dalles girls’ soccer team accomplished a lot under the tutelage of first-year head coach Oscar Nunez and seven athletes were rewarded for their hard work through the 2016 season with all-Columbia River Conference honors.
Riding a streak of six losses in their past seven games, The Dalles got two goals apiece from seniors Brooke McCall and Giselle Manzo in a 4-1 girls’ soccer victory Tuesday in a Columbia River Conference soccer match played at Pendleton High School.
Brooke McCall scored two goals and added an assist, as the Lady Riverhawks picked up three-second half goals to break open a scoreless halftime tie in a 4-0 shutout win over Pendleton Tuesday in a Columbia River Conference match played in The Dalles.
The Dalles allowed an early goal, three minutes into play, and also gave up an insurance tally at the 34-minute mark, in their 2-0 shutout loss to 4A Madras Thursday at Discovery Field.
Giselle Manzo scored five goals and Emma Weir added two, as The Dalles girls’ soccer team jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 9-0 victory over Redmond Tuesday in varsity action at Redmond High School.
For The Dalles girls’ soccer team, it is all about fresh starts. Under the new offensive and defensive schemes implemented by new head coach Oscar Nunez, varsity assistant Cheri McCall and new junior varsity coach Amy Krol, the rebuilt roster has its focus squarely on early success and a berth into the postseason.
