In its first Class 5A Intermountain Conference tournament, The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team took third place in the six-team event April 4 at the challenging 18-hole Crooked River Ranch Golf Course in Terrebonne.
The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team continued to show that it’s a contender for the Class 5A Intermountain Conference title with two second-place finishes last week.
The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team, guided by Coach Dan Telles, competed in a Class 5A state golf tourney May 19 at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield.
Tyler Vassar and Aidan Telles turned in top-5 finishes and The Dalles boys golf team placed third overall at The Riverhawk Invitational on Mar. 22 at The Dalles Country Club.
Down seven strokes through one day, The Dalles golfer Aidan Telles planned on playing his normal game, while also taking more calculated risks to get a chance at creeping closer to the top of the leaderboard.
The Dalles sophomore Aidan Telles carded a season-best 5-over par 77 for a seventh-place tie, seven strokes behind overall Leader, Marist’s John Pollock, in opening-round action at the OSAA 5A boys’ golf state championships Monday on the Emerald Valley Golf Club course in Creswell.
Head coach Dan Telles fielded a four-person junior varsity group for tournament action Monday and they combined for a 476 to grab fourth place at Astoria Country Club.
First-year varsity golfers Jonathan Snodgrass, Spencer Taylor and David Adams had a touch of nerves at the start of Thursday’s Big River Invitational. Snodgrass carded a 104, Taylor finished his tournament at 120, and Adams came through with his 124, to follow up Tyler Vassar, who placed second overall after a 76, and Aidan Telles placed third overall with his 81 to give The Dalles fourth place in Umatilla.
Just because Chase Snodgrass and Mark Felderman are not on the roster, The Dalles boys’ golf team should not be an afterthought when it comes to challenging for a 5A state championship.
