The No. 4-ranked Dufur/South Wasco County High Rangers remained undefeated in Class 2A/1A Special District 7 baseball, sweeping No. 12-ranked Heppner (7-4 SD7, 8-8 overall), 5-0 and 11-7, on April 29 at Dufur High School.

DUFUR – It was quite the turnaround season for the Dufur baseball team.
After posting two wins and a ninth-place league finish, the young Rangers bolstered their roster with eight freshmen and won 11 games, securing a second-place league outcome and a state berth under head coach C.S. Little.
The Dalles pitchers gave up nine hits and walked 11 batters, while the offense mustered just four hits in the team’s 12-2 mercy-ruled loss in six innings in Pendleton Tuesday. (Also covers Dufur and Sherman.)

A true testament to any championship team is how they respond when their backs are against the wall. Team Pepsi had an opening-round loss and that meant either the players were going to fold up shop or dig deeper into their souls for a resounding response. Thankfully for coach Chad Smith, his squad chose the latter.
Local all-star baseball player Carson Smith recently participated in the Under Armour National Tryout and received an invitation to play in the Winter Classic Tournament on Dec. 26, in Vero Beach, Fla. along with 100 other athletes from across the nation.
Following three consecutive losses at the start of the Babe Ruth Regional Tournament, The Dalles’ 13U team finished out strong with a 9-7 victory over Meridian, Idaho on Friday, as TD jumped out to a 9-0 lead and the pitching duo of Brock LaFaver and Jace Troutman staved off a late rally to give their team its lone victory.
