Port commissioners heard an update from David McCurry of Parsons Engineering about safety, seismic and preservation studies on the Bridge of the Gods at its Aug. 19 meeting.
Photo from two weeks ago, courtesy Columbia Gorge Discovery Center where it’s number 2020.3.3 in the collections, showed Seufert Park and the Winquatt Museum, once located beside The Dalles Dam on the Oregon side. It was on the old Seufert Cannery site, owned by Wasco County/City of The Dalles as an archaeology museum, providing exhibit space, storage, and training workshops.

THE DALLES — Celebrate the archaeology and history of the Columbia River Gorge and beyond at the Archaeology Roadshow on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the River Gallery of Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum, 5000 Discovery Drive, The Dalles. The event is free and open to the public.
Last week's History Mystery image, included above, shows one of the best-known petroglyph boulders from a site near Roosevelt, Klickitat County, that was flooded following the construction of John Day Dam, according to Rick McLure.
The opening of the Coyote Canyon Mammoth Site for 2024 is just around the corner, as tours are scheduled to begin April 1. Tours cost $10 per person and all proceeds are donated to the McBones operation.
The annual meeting of Original Wasco County Courthouse Preservation, Inc. is Saturday, June 2, at 1:30 p.m., at the original courthouse, the 1859 building at 410 W. 2nd Place, behind the Chamber of Commerce in The Dalles.
