I would like to thank the many, many people who are rallying in support of Measure 33-98 to replace North Wasco County’s four oldest schools.
It is all too easy to find excuses not to support it. I hear people say they will never vote for a school bond until this or that person is gone. I hear them say we will never pass a bond until we can come together as a community.
In my experience, people tend to come together when they find a cause worthy of uniting behind. I can think of no more worthy cause to support than our children, their education, and their future.
The new schools that will be built with this bond money will provide for the needs of our children for generations to come, assuring they have a safe, secure and healthy environment in which to learn — an environment that will enhance their educations rather than detract.
When those schools are built, we will be able to take pride in the fact that we provided for our children and our community, as our parents and grandparents did before us.
Public education accessible to all is a cornerstone of our democracy. It is the best deterrent for crime, poverty and homelessness.
Please join me in supporting strong community schools. Please vote yes on Measure 33-98 before Nov. 6.
