On this 60th Anniversary year of the Christmas Ships on the Columbia and Willamette rivers, there will be a new color on the mast of one ship: PINK. Owners, Chris and Denise Bouchers have outfitted their sailboat with the logo of the local non profit, PINK SISTAS.
The pink ribbon and embellished heart logo are aglow as the annual Christmas ships set sail this holiday season.
The PINK SISTAS, a 5013c non-profit established in the State of Oregon in 2013, offers retreats and services for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients in the Columbia River Gorge area.
PINK SISTAS works to provide much needed resources, camaraderie and care where fewer services are available for patients during treatment and recovery.
Through the ANNUAL PINK IN THE GORGE and PINK SISTAS GOLF TOURNAMENT, this organization raises funds to keep the awareness of proper health and early detection in the forefront for all women.
During the 2014 Christmas Ship parade, we thank the intrepid and dedicated captains of these wonderful ships for their sheer dedication that often overcomes all but the most severe weather. We liken them to the thousands of local breast cancer patients and survivors who also face a difficult journey on the open sea of life.
