Mt. Adams Elks Lodge No. 1868 of White Salmon, as well as other Elk Lodges throughout Washington and Oregon, are preparing for a busy year of giving back to their communities. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) is committed to their communities, the youth and veterans.

Scholarships are an important part of our giving to the youth. The Most Valuable Student (MVS) scholarship has an online application and will be closing on Nov. 12. This is open to all graduating seniors. Don’t miss out on this chance for a scholarship up to $30,000 (over four years). Applicants do not have to know or be associated with the Elks to apply.
Mt. Adams Elks in White Salmon have upcoming events of interest to our communities: Veterans Standdown, open to all veterans especially in Klickitat and Skamania Counties on Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lodge on 127 NE Church St., White Salmon. Information of interest to veterans will be available free of charge. A holiday bazaar will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be offering a free digital ID program for children and adults.
Other programs offered to our youth and communities are the National Hoop Shoot (a free throw contest open to boys and girls ages 8-13), and the American Essay contest open to grades 5-8, with a deadline of Dec. 15. For Student Of the Month and Veterans Assistance, check with your local lodge for details. Drug Awareness programs vary by lodge.
There are local lodges in Oregon in Condon, Heppner, The Dalles and Hood River, as well as the metropolitan area of Portland. The Washington local lodge is in White Salmon, with others along the I-5 corridor and Seattle.
