Shared use path

White and green thermoplastic lines were added to make the path more noticeable and defined.

HOOD RIVER — After a demonstration project in fall of 2023, Hood River Safe Routes to School proved the success of a two-way shared-use path for walkers and bikers. The path was recently installed near the Hood River Middle School and follows along 18th Street, from Belmont Avenue to May Street.

The goal of the path is to give students who walk or cycle “a sense of place, safety, and direction for their daily commute,” said the press release. The new path is complete with white and green thermoplastic lines, and a stop sign was also installed on May Street where it intersects with 17th Street.
