Seven candidates have filed for election to Hood River City Council, including former City Manager Bob Francis and former Mayor Bob Palmer, while in Cascade Locks the mayor and council incumbents are the only people to file as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The deadline to do so is 5 p.m. Tuesday (after press time).
Voters will decide in the Nov. 4 General Election on three people for Hood River council and four for Cascade Locks.
Filing to run with the City of Hood River are: Dave Bick, Becky Brun, Susan Johnson, Joseph Sheehan, and Palmer and Francis.
So far, two people have filed for Hood River Mayor: Paul Blackburn and Greg Colt. Blackburn, who served one term as council member in 2008-10, and Colt both announced in July their plans to run.
Mayor Arthur Babitz has served two terms and declined to run for re-election.
In Cascade Locks, Mayor Tom Cramblett filed for reelection, while council members Richard Deanna Busdieker, Jeff Helfrich, Richard Randall and Bobby Walker filed for the positions they now hold.
For the Seventh District Circuit Court judge post, appointed incumbent Karen Ostrye of Hood River and Hood River attorney Timothy Farrell had filed for the election as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The top three vote-getters in the council elections will take office in January. In Hood River, Brian McNamara, Ed Weathers and Carrie Nelson have decided not to run for election.
In Hood River, at least one more candidate had initially filed, but was still processing documents, according to City Recorder Jennifer Gray, meaning the field could go at least as high as eight people.
Continuing council members are Mark Zanmiller, Laurent Picard and Kate McBride.
Also on the Nov. 4 ballot will be levies supporting the Cascade Locks and West Side fire departments.
