Two bridges in Hood River will see closures at night this week as ODOT takes steps to extend the life of the pavement.
The two bridges are the 2nd Street bridge over the railroad tracks and the Button Bridge (by China Gorge) where it crosses the railroad tracks just south of I-84.
The work on both bridges is scheduled for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., through Thursday nights. The two bridges will not be closed concurrently.
On the Second Street Bridge project, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times.
During the Button Bridge work, access to Button Bridge Road and Highway 35 will be closed between exit 64 and Button Junction. Motorists and cyclists will be directed to use exit 63 and take Second Street to State Street where they can return to the junction of Button Bridge Road and Highway 35.
The Port of Hood River’s contractor, Wildish Standard Paving, who is repairing the Washington and Oregon bridge approaches, has identified the first two full night closures — July 29 and July 30.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. on each of those dates.
The only crossing exceptions will be for emergency vehicles whose dispatch center has coordinated the crossing with the toll booth.
