Bird walks planned — Two free, inclusive bird walks are set for the period of the Great Backyard Bird Count. Both are meant for beginning through advanced, deaf/ASL, and blind birders. It’s not necessary to have binoculars to bird; a couple of spares will be shared around. There will be scopes to look through for a closer view. One is Feb. 15, 9-11 a.m. at Deschutes River State Recreation Area, Sherman County: meet at the entrance parking lot. The other will be Feb. 15, 9-11 a.m. at Bingen Pond: enter Bingen, turn south onto Maple Street, and in 1.4 miles park at the end of the road. Both involve easy, mostly-flat walking on pavement, grass and some packed dirt.
