(The Center Square) – Memphis City Councilwoman Jerri Green took the Tennessee Democratic primary for governor, and U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn won the Republican primary in contests decided on Thursday night. 

Unless one of the 17 men running as independent candidates surges before the November general election, Tennessee is poised to have its first female governor in its history.
