(The Center Square) – Democrat David Crowley holds a lead slightly larger than the margin of error over Tom Tiffany in a Marquette Poll of likely voters released Wednesday in the Wisconsin governor’s race.
Crowley held 49% while Tiffany held 44% with 7% undecided. Amongst all registered voters, both Crowley and Tiffany held 44% support with 12% undecided.
The survey was conducted Aug. 12-20, interviewing 891 Wisconsin registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.
The poll is the first Marquette Poll of the general election after Crowley won the Democrat primary despite never leading or coming close in polling heading into Election Day.
The race was highlighted by Crowley dropping out and then reentering with the endorsement of Gov. Tony Evers after Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez dropped out of the race.
Former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes also dropped out before Election Day.
“Some of the gap between likely and registered voters is due to a slight Democratic advantage in commitment to voting in November, with 84% of Democrats and 82% of Republicans saying they are certain to vote,” the Marquette Poll shared. “Fifty-nine percent of independents say the same.”
Slightly more likely voters also said they planned to vote for Democrats than Republicans in state Senate and Assembly races with 48% saying they planned to vote for a Democratic candidate and 45% saying they intend to vote for a Republican.
Crowley was viewed favorably by 33% and unfavorably by 29% with 38% saying they have not heard enough about him while Tiffany is seen favorably by 39% and unfavorably by 42% with 18% unable to say.
