Last week’s key matches saw The Rollers smash MTS 18-7 as Kevin Harris shined with a big 253 game for The Rollers; Team 2 squash Mt. Hood BBQ 23-2; and Pat’s Pro Shop blast 3 Fingers Deep 23-2 behind the pin-busting of sponsor Patrick Olson, who fashioned a beautiful 727 series (Team of the Week).
In other matches last week, OL’7-10 outlasted Randy’s Painting 13-12 even though sponsor Randy Nieto continued his pin-busting hot streak for the painters as he assaulted the sticks with 247 and 235 games; and Orchard Lanes tromped on Clear Cutters 17.5-7.5 despite Rod Pratt’s tidy 644 set for the cutters.
Tuesday Nite Mixed (Tuesday, 7 p.m.): Stuart Kawachi: 257; Robert Reed: 255; Ken Espersen: 238; Albert Frelix: 235; Erin Salisbury: 202, 202; Joella Dethman: 200
Last week Double A Orchards (Spencer Hansen, Erin Salisbury, Aron Asai, and all-star Nancy Asai) won the three-team roll off for second place in the first half of the Mixed league. Second place is important because in the Mixed, the top two teams in each half qualify for the league championship roll off, which will be held at the end of the season. Mad Skilz took first place in the first half last week. This second-place roll off was a three-game total pins test, and the outcome was a knuckle biter. Double A Orchards spilled 2,678 pins, Team Nishi knocked down 2,672 sticks and Hood River Supply upended 2,660 pins. A six-pin win for Double A, it doesn’t get much tighter than this, all we can say is it was a fantastic competitive match! Hats off to all, congratulations on tough playoff bowling.
Starring for Double A in the roll off was Erin Salis-bury, who racked up two 202 games. Joey Sheirbon and Stuart Kawachi gave 110% for Team Nishi in the battle. Joey rolled a 615 series that included strong 227 and 214 games. And Stuart was really on his game as he fired a robust 644 set that was highlighted by a lofty 257 game. Third-place Hood River Supply was led by Cy Cannon’s cool 214 game and Woody Eskildsen chipped in a 201.
Last week was just the first week in the second half of the league. Are You Splitting Me jumped out in the early lead with a 4-0 sweep of Take Ten despite the best efforts of Ken Espersen who stroked an excellent 238 game and 624 series for Take Ten. Albert Frelix and Robert Reed starred for the Split-ters. Albert fired a dandy 235 game and Robert blasted a huge 255. There is a tie for second between Hood River Supply and Team Kawachi. Supply beat Taco Tuesday 3-1 and Team Kawachi did the same to CPR.
Senior Colts and Fillies (Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.): Lynn Spellman: 255, 624; Paul Dethman: 214; Dick Sherrell: 214
Next week is it! The end of the first half in the senior league and after last week’s action, it’s a toss-up for first place. Two Pair (Linda Green, Jim Green, Michael Ross, and Vicki Ross) are currently in first place with 36 wins; Skamaniacs are in second with 35 wins; and Gutter Gals are in third with 33.5 wins.
In last week’s meaningful matches that had an impact on first place, 2 Pair beat Jesse’s Team 3-1 despite Dick Sherrell’s 214 for Jesse; Awesome 3 lost to Skamaniacs 3-1; and Gutter Gals popped Rice Krispies 3-1 even though the big snap-and-crackle guy in the room, Lynn Spellman, worked the sticks over with a dazzling 255 game and 624 series for the Krispies crew. Hood River Bowling Association Executive Director Sue Spellman, who anchors the Gutter Gals, got bragging rights over hubby Lynn this time!
Fraternal (Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.): Mike Parke: 258, 689; Chad Mason: 242, 236, 683; Patrick Olson: 258, 253, 675; Stan Pratnicki: 668; Jeremy Bloom: 237, 655; Nancy Asai: 224, 614; AJ Perdue: 241; Ciena Brittle: 216; Bernie Keys: 203
Orchard Lanes (Jeff Brittle, Mike Parke, and Patrick Olson) extended their first-place lead last week to 77.5 points due to their 23-2 point crunching of Mt. Hood BBQ.
Mike Parke, the left handed Doomsday Striking Machine from The Dalles, and Orchard Lanes proprietor Patrick Olson sparked the Orchard Lanes team to this big win. Mike stroked a solid 689 three gamer (Team of the Week), and Patrick tossed a 675 set.
In other action last week, The MD’s trounced Hood River Athletic Club 16-9 as Luke Renfro excelled for the MD’s with a slick 615 series which was his first 600 of the season; the Red Rockets stunned Ten in the Pit 18-7; Bloom Auto Body beat The Bowling Stones 17-8 despite the best efforts of all-star Chad Mason, who cuffed the sticks to the tune of a spiffy 683 series (Team of the Week) for the Stones; Jeremy Bloom, the staccato stepping superstar sponsor of the auto body crew, tallied a 655 set (Team of the Week) with his syrupy smooth, easy release; and Get Hu’sum BBQ squashed Electronics Assemblers 22.5-2.5 as Stan (Fireball) Pratnicki busted a 668 series (Team of the Week) for the barbequers and teammate Rob Miller notched a swell 622 set.
County league (Thursday, 5 p.m.): Gordon Pillon: 212; Michael Poor: 207; Jason Borton: 204
It’s nearing eleventh hour time in the County league, as there are only two weeks to go in the first half. The Incredibowls (Rod Pratt, Yoyo Cervantes and Matt Stoneberg) are still in first place with 26 wins.
In last week’s matches, thanks to Rod Pratt’s pin pummeling power, his Incredibowls trio once again thumped the Lady Ballers 3-1. A closer look at the scores shows it wasn’t as easy as it looks. All games were remarkably close, so if it hadn’t been for Mr. Pratt, the outcome could have easily favored the Lady Ballers. In the face of adversity you just got to keep on trucking, everybody!
Other 3-1 winners included Save the Pins over Gutter Girls, thanks to Jason Borton’s fine 204 game; and Split Happens vs. The Munsons.
Matches split 2-2 included The BowLeeAnders against Holy Rollers; and BSers vs. Pins in Low Places who were led by Gordon Pillon’s nifty 212 game.
Let’s GO BOWLING everyone!
