HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Library Bookmobile has been a fervent part of our community in recent years, and with a few new updates it has furthered community involvement and provided extensive resources for a diverse range of patrons. The bookmobile provides a wide array of services, including wi-fi, “rentals” from their Library of Things, snacks, games, DVDs, printing services and, of course, books. The bookmobile team has worked to include an variety of objects to lend, such as the addition of a volleyball set and karaoke machine.
Apart from the Library of Things, Jasmin Martinez and the team hope to increase participation in their services through activities and increased stops throughout the Gorge. There has been a stop added at the Mercado Guadalajara market across from Rosauers in Hood River and at Mid-Valley Market in Odell, with the Walmart stop in Hood River now permanent. They have also moved the Pine Grove stop to a later time in the evening to meet the needs of residents in the middle Valley.
Martinez says their patrons have responded well to these changes.
For Hispanic Heritage Month, the bookmobile took part in a Mexican Loteria event in Odell. In celebration of Hispaic heritage, there were bingo games offered with prizes, as well as fresh Mexican sweet bread provided.
In the future, the Hood River Library hopes to keep the bookmobile running throughout the Gorge, and extend their services so that the people of the Hood River and surrounding areas are happy. Open to feedback and new ideas, you can contact the library at info@hoodriverlibrary.org, or contact Bookmobile Librarian Jasmin Martinez personally at jasmin@hoodriverlibrary.org.
